End-of-service gratuity is a legally mandated payment that every employee in the United Arab Emirates is entitled to when their employment ends, provided they have completed at least one continuous year of service. It is calculated on the basic salary only (excluding housing, transport and other allowances) and is governed by UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, which abolished the older limited and unlimited contract distinction in February 2022 and unified the gratuity calculation across all contracts. The Toolsfluent UAE Gratuity Calculator implements the official formula: 21 days of basic salary for every year of the first 5 years of service, then 30 days of basic salary for every additional year beyond 5. The total gratuity is capped at 2 years of total wages. The tool also accounts for partial years (pro-rated by month and day) so you can plan around resignation timing, contract renewal or end-of-service settlements. Built for UAE expats, HR professionals, employees evaluating a job change, and anyone preparing a final settlement letter or planning to repatriate after a long stint in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or any of the other Emirates.

How to use the UAE End of Service Gratuity Calculator

  1. Enter basic salary: type your monthly basic salary in AED (excluding housing, transport, and other allowances; only the basic component is used by law).
  2. Enter years of service: input total continuous years with the same employer; you can use decimals like 7.5 to include half-years for a more accurate pro-rated estimate.
  3. Read the breakdown: the tool shows gratuity for the first 5 years (at 21 days basic per year), additional years (at 30 days basic per year), the total in AED and the equivalent number of days of basic salary.
  4. Check the 2-year cap: total gratuity cannot exceed 2 years of total wages by law; if you cross that, the result will be capped accordingly.
  5. Use for planning: compare the figure against your final-settlement letter from HR, evaluate the cost of leaving early versus completing a full year, or factor it into your resignation and relocation plan.
