The Hijri (Islamic) calendar is a lunar calendar used across the Muslim world for religious observances, government records in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, the Gulf states and many other countries, as well as for personal milestones like Hijri birthdays and death anniversaries. The Toolsfluent Hijri Date Converter handles both directions instantly: type a Gregorian date (the standard 365-day calendar) and see its Hijri equivalent, or enter a Hijri date and get the Gregorian counterpart. The converter uses the Umm al-Qura algorithm, which is the official Saudi calendar standard adopted by ZATCA, the Saudi government, the OIC and most Muslim-majority countries for civil and religious purposes. Useful for planning Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Hajj, Arba'een, Ashura and other Islamic events, calculating Hijri ages for vital records, scheduling events that follow the Hijri calendar (Saudi government appointments, Hajj visa applications, religious ceremonies), and helping non-Muslims convert dates for cross-cultural correspondence with Muslim contacts. The calculation runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript's built-in Islamic calendar support, so dates never leave your device.

How to use the Hijri Date Converter

  1. Choose direction: pick Gregorian to Hijri (default) to convert a standard date to Islamic, or Hijri to Gregorian to go the other way.
  2. Pick a date: in Gregorian to Hijri mode, select the Gregorian date from the date picker; in Hijri to Gregorian mode, select the Hijri day, month and year from dropdowns.
  3. Read the converted date: the result appears instantly in the chosen format, including the Hijri month name (Muharram, Safar, Ramadan, etc.) or the Gregorian weekday and full date.
  4. Verify the year: Hijri years are roughly 11 days shorter than Gregorian years, so the Hijri-to-Gregorian gap shifts each year. The converter accounts for this automatically.
  5. Use for planning: copy the converted date into religious event planners, Hajj/Umrah applications, Saudi government forms, or just to know when Ramadan, Eid or other holidays fall.
